NCF is a a multigenerational family foundation, rooted in the Jewish tradition of social justice, working to help create a more just, vibrant, sustainable, and democratic society. We partner with social change organizations that have creative and catalytic solutions to climate change and inequality. Following a recent strategic planning process, the board made the decision to refocus all of the foundation's assets to advance a triple goal of racial, economic and environmental justice. In environmental justice, our focus areas include addressing harm, inclusive participation in the green economy and regenerative economic models.

EHEJ Interest:

Our environmental justice work is rooted in social justice. We aim to advance the right of all people and communities to a clean, healthy, and safe environment as well as promote equal environmental protection under the law and in fact. Core to our work is empowering all communities to make informed decisions and fully participate civically and economically in the creation of environmental solutions.

Foundation Strategies:

Each of our programs includes three primary focus areas. As part of our strategies, we leverage a totality of assets approach in pursuit of impact towards racial, economic and environmental justice. In Environmental Justice, focus area strategies are to: address environmental harms that impact local ecosystems and BIPOC, low-income and marginalized communities; support inclusive participation in the green economy to capture the economic and wealth building opportunities inherent in the transition, rooted in a just transition frame; and advance regenerative economic models that provide alternatives to extractive practices and are positioned to replicate or scale. In addition to grants, we leverage shareholder activism, mission and program related investments and communications in support of our mission and programmatic goals.
