EHEJ Interest:

Hydrofracking has primarily received funding support through the foundation's Environment Program. Additional grants have been made through the Sustainable Ithaca Program, focused on Tompkins County, NY, and trustee discretionary grantmaking. Trustee interests also intersect with other HEFN priority areas including chemical policy reform.

Foundation Strategies:

The foundation's grantmaking is based on the conviction that this method of natural gas extraction poses a profound impact on the health, environment and economies of communities in New York and the Finger Lakes region. Grants made have primarily been in New York, with limited support for work on this issue in North Carolina and also national level efforts.
